To successfully register your sim card with any telecommunication company, you will need a national identification card with a valid national identification number or passport or refugee card. When the government of Uganda made the above practice mandatory, some individuals resorted to buying already registered sim cards from dealers or using other people’s identification documents.
Through this process, you might not know that someone is using your identity. However, since you are responsible for any fraud or crime committed using a sim card registered under your name, you need to take action ASAP to avoid the unbearable. First, you need to check if there are numbers that were registered using your National ID. After you have established the strange numbers, the next step will require you to visit the nearest authorized service center.

How to Remove Phone Number Registered Under your National ID Uganda
The procedure has been divided into two steps; step 1-check the number that is registered under NIN and step 2- visit the nearest service center shop.
Step 1: Check Numbers that Use your NIN
1. Launch the phone app on your device.
2. Dial *197# and then press the OK button.
3. Select Option 2, NIN Check.
4. Enter NIN or Passport ID.
5. A list of mobile numbers registered under your NIN will appear on the phone screen.
6. Review all the numbers and not down the numbers that you want to remove.
Step 2: Visit the Nearest Service Center
1. Go to the nearest authorized service center in your area with your original copy of the national ID. Click here for service locations.
2. Share details of the number you want to disconnect from using your identification details.
3. The agent will verify a few details, and the number will be disconnected as per request.
