Health authorities deny having registered Ebola outbreak in Kasese

Health authorities in Kasese have dismissed reports that the district has registered an Ebola outbreak.

On Saturday June 01, 2024, information and videos went viral on some social media platforms indicating that Kasese district has had an outbreak of Ebola. The suspected case was reported at Kavera in Hima Town Council, Busongora County North.

Addressing the press today afternoon at Sandton Hotel in Kasese town, Mr. Stephen Bagonza, the acting District Health Officer, described the information as baseless, null and void.

Mr. Bagonzam however, clarified that they only received five suspected cases of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever from some herdsmen at Kayanja of Hima Town Council.

According to him Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever has signs and symptoms related to those of Ebola and it is spread through body contacts.

He stressed that whereas the suspects are being managed at Bwera Government General Hospital; their blood samples have been collected and taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute for confirmatory tests.

The District Health Boss has since advised the general population to uphold all the precautionary measures against the airborne diseases.

The precautionary measures according to him include hand washing, sanitizing and avoiding hugging and shaking hands.
