Rotary Club of Kasese Commissions Lhuhwahwa Model Village Project

The Rotary Club of Kasese and partners have commissioned a multi million model village project in Luhwahwa I and II villages in Kisinga Sub-County, Kasese district.

The mega project that cost up to USD 100,000 commenced in 2006 when the Rotary Club of Kasese partnered with Lhuhwahwa Poultry Farmers Development Association (LUPODA) a village farmers group.

The project was funded by Rotary Clubs of Santa Cruz Sunrise (District 5170), Bramhall & Woodford, Kasese and the Rotary Foundation Global Grants 1743457 and 2122737.

While officiating at the function, Byamungu Erias the Kasese district Chief Administrative Officer(CAO) thanked the Rotary Club of Kasese for taking on such a big project to transform the lives of Ugandans.

“Government doesn’t work alone, we need partners like Rotary to create a good life for Ugandans and it is good to see Rotarians all over the world doing amazing work to support the government of Uganda,” Byamungu said.

He asked the people of Lhuhwahwa and their leaders to be responsible and own the project as he pledged to follow up the project and observe how the people are managing it.

She also asked the residents of Lhuhwahwa to take care and manage the project.

“I call upon the district leaders to jealousy guard this project and also support Rotary in every project they do,” Asiimwe asked.

Rotarian Peggy Pollard a representative from the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise (one of the funding Rotary clubs) noted that the people of Lhuhwahwa have a lot to offer to the world and it is through such projects that the world can keep the hope of the Lhuhwahwa people alive.

She also promised to partner with the Rotary club of Kasese for another project to provide meals for school going children at Kajwenge Primary School.

On the same note, Rotarian Agrippina Tumuhumbise the Rotary club of Kasese president thanked the people of Lhuhwahwa for welcoming the project and taking part in it.

“When we came in to do the water project, the local people participated in various activities including the digging of trenches in which water pipes were layed,” Tumuhimbise said.

She added that the idea of developing a model parish was intended to change people’s lives and increase their incomes.

Masereka Stephen, the project coordinator on behalf of LUPODA revealed that various projects such as Eco Sun Latrines, Safe Tapped Water, Vocational Training, Poultry Keeping and Piggery have been implemented.

“We have also received economic empowerment through a microfinance fund and we have received over UGX 7million through the Rotary club of Kasese,” Masereka revealed.

Masereka confirmed that the community now enjoys clean reliable and safe water(21 taps in the two villages), over 100 Eco Sun latrines, Numerous trainings in agriculture and hygiene through making re-usable sanitary pads to keep girls in school.

He added that the village savings group capital shares now stand at UGX 21million.
